ABC is expanding its relationship with a major professional sports league with a buddy comedy that’s set in the NBA, Deadline.com reports.
The comedy is executive produced by “The Neighbors” creator Dan Fogelman, Peter Guber and Mike Tollin of Mandalay Sports Media, and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment.
The NBA and the league’s Golden State Warriors, who are co-owned by Guber, are also taking part in the project, the story reports. ABC is the broadcast home for the NBA.
The project, which was given a put pilot commitment, will focus on a rookie player who doesn’t speak English, and his translator, who doesn’t know much about basketball.
“It’s basically the international ‘Odd Couple’ set in the NBA,” Fogelman told Deadline.
It’s also the second professional sports comedy in the works at ABC, which has been working on a project inspired by Robbie Rogers, an openly gay soccer player.
