CBS Issues Ultimatum in Dish Dispute

Dec 3, 2014  •  Post A Comment

CBS has issued an ultimatum in its retransmission fee dispute with satellite TV’s Dish Network.

The showdown is set for Thursday. The Los Angeles Times reports that the network said it will pull its signal for its stations in 14 markets at 7 p.m. ET on that day if no agreement has been reached.

The two sides have already negotiated for several weeks, and the deadline has been extended twice, including over the Thanksgiving weekend. CBS on Tuesday began running an on-screen crawl alerting viewers to the possible blackout.

“Unless agreements are reached … our viewers should be prepared to lose CBS from their Dish systems on Thursday evening,” CBS said in a statement Tuesday, according to the report.

Dish reportedly countered that it is actively working toward a deal.

  1. Another good reason for cutting the “cable”. CBS will never pull its broadcasting from the air.
