Sony Pictures TV is the latest U.S. production company to buy a piece of the Australian production business.
The company has a deal to buy Playmaker Media, a scripted production company with several series worldwide, Variety reports. Playmaker is behind the drama “The Code,” which has been acquired in the U.S. by DirecTV and by the BBC in the U.K.
Another Playmaker series is “House Husbands,” which is in its fourth season on the Nine Network, with French and Italian adaptations on the way.
Variety notes that NBCUniversal International Television earlier this year took control of its own piece of the Australian production business, Matchbox Pictures.
Playmaker, founded in 2009 by producers David Taylor and David Maher, will continue to be run from Sydney.
