One of the hosts of the E! Entertainment show “Fashion Police” has made a public apology after remarks she made on the show brought accusations of racism.
Giuliana Rancic’s apology came after she commented on Zendaya’s hair during Monday’s coverage of the Oscars red carpet. The Washington Post reports that Rancic “employed not one but two racially tinged stereotypes to criticize Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman’s red carpet look: a sleek Vivienne Westwood gown and dreadlocks.”
Rancic reportedly said on the show: “I feel that she smells like patchouli oil … or weed. Yeah, maybe weed.”
The Post notes that Zendaya, whose father is black, quickly responded, focusing on the racial subtext of the comments.
“In response, the 18-year-old singer and Disney actress (‘Shake It Up,’ ‘K.C. Undercover’) issued a rather lengthy takedown of Rancic’s comments — noting that despite the stereotype of dreadlocks being associated with weed smokers and Rastafarians, they are a symbol of ‘strength and beauty,'” the Post reports.
Zendaya said in her response: “There is already a harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair. My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough.”

I am bewildered that Guiliana Rancic and the entire “Fashion Police” rag on people period. Nobody on that show is an expert on fashion and if Guilana actually looked in the mirror she could maybe see she’s anorexic and perhaps eat something and be a healthy weight.
