Cable Channel Stakes a Claim in the Instamentary Space

An instamentary is defined as a documentary produced in a short period of time, especially one that’s focused on a recent news event. Now one cable channel, Investigation Discovery, is formalizing its commitment to the instamentary with the announcement of a new series, “Front Page.”

The new instamentary series will cover major cases making headlines, with programs to air within weeks of the initial incident or arrest, the channel announced.

Said Henry Schleiff, Group President at Discovery Communications: “Working in conjunction with the leading news organizations covering these active cases — including NBC, ABC and CBS — Investigation Discovery will create quick turn-around documentaries outlining the facts and suspicions as they unfolded, almost in real time.”

Schleiff added: “We’ve learned through our popular CrimeFeed.com website and viewer feedback that ID is a trusted source for information on the intricacies of complicated cases — creating instamentaries ripped from the front pages of newspapers across the country is a natural evolution of our storytelling.”
