No, it’s not April Fool’s Day and we’re not clowning around with our headline. NBC has announced that it will broadcast a celebrity-packed event in which the stars will be wearing those red noses usually seen on clowns.

“Red Nose Day, the U.K.’s #1 television fundraising event, is finally coming to America in a spectacular star-studded special live on NBC,” the network announced. “In collaboration with Comic Relief, Inc., NBC will televise a three-hour benefit in May 2015 as a celebration for the U.S. inaugural Red Nose Day event.”

Red Nose Day has been going on in the U.K. for 25 years and has reportedly raised more than $1 billion for charity.

“With superstar presenters and comedians, original sketch comedy, hilarious film parodies, one-off sitcom reunions and amazing musical performances, it’s no wonder that this program has been the one of the BBC’s highest-rated Friday night shows for many years,” NBC notes.

The fundraising effort strives to raise money and awareness of poverty. The creator of the U.K. event, writer-director Richard Curtis (“Love Actually,” “Bridget Jones’s Diary”), will be an executive producer on the NBC program.

“Through personal donations and corporate partners, the live NBC benefit will raise money for poverty-focused charities working both in the United States and around the world,” NBC notes. “Televised in front of a live audience, like its BBC counterpart the NBC telecast will include individual stand-up performances, sketch comedy, parodies, live music and short films about the cause.”

The guest lineup for the event, reportedly set for May 21, is expected to be announced later, along with the charities taking part.
