Hallmark Launches New Production Unit, Firms Up Commitment to Original TV Movies

Mar 16, 2015  •  Post A Comment

The company that owns Hallmark Channel announced the launch of a new production unit, signaling its commitment to original made-for-TV movies.

Variety reports that the new unit, Crown Media Productions, “is designed to allow the Hallmark and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channels to own more of their programming outright and to control it across multiple platforms worldwide. Crown Media Prods. aims to bankroll the production of up to six telepics this year, with the goal of doubling that number by 2016.”

Michelle Vicary, executive VP of programming for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, will oversee the new unit, which comes under the umbrella of Hallmark parent company Crown Media Family Networks.

Vicary called the move “the next stage of the company’s evolution.”

She added: “A production arm creates the infrastructure that makes it possible for us to keep up with an ever-growing demand for more and more original Hallmark-branded programming across a variety of platforms, and it benefits Crown Media with more direct input into the creative process and financing, rights retention, and growing one of the best family film libraries in entertainment.”

  2. I just love the Hallmark channel. I would like to see more variety of people and their families. ex. Asian, Afro-americans
    thank you

  3. I am a long time fan of the Hallmark channels. I would love to see more culturally diverse films. And I would also like to see you feature new talent. You do a great job of giving younger less well known actors great rolls but you tend to use the same actors over and over again. And they tend to mostly be Canadian. I have no problem with that but there is so much talent available please consider giving a few American and European actors a chance to display their talents.

  4. I have two stories and wish to submit them. May I have an address to mail them? One is called “THE FINDING”. Story of an indians girl to find her identity and finds it and love. The other is: THE ADVENTURES OF J.D. SWIVELS, a crazy lonely man who finds a lonely girl and wins her with his adorable, crazy courtship. I live in Queen Creek, AZ.

  5. I have authored a book entitled “Seven on the Bell.” The book contains stories, songs, and poetry about growing up in the Ozark Mountains of Central Missouri The stories are humorous and inspirational and are a glimpse into the lives of a family who, inspite of poverty, hardships and deprivations, lived the American Dream. A talented producer could easily adapt the stories to TV, etc.

I would be happy to forward a copy of my book for you to review and determine its usefulness to the Hallmark Channel.

    Thank you.

  7. In reference to the the emails you have received from Shirley Harrell, regarding the book, “Seven on the Bell” have you read my book? Do you have a suggestion for its usefulness? Do you have a comment from your review of the book?

From the positive response of readers ( I have distributed between 3,000 and 4,000 of the books) I am very surprised that your company could not find it worthy of a response to me. Many readers have contacted me saying that they keep the book at their bedside or on their end ables for comforting, and/or amusing up-lifting reading, etc.

I would appreciated hearing from you. Thank you!
