The Highest-Grossing Film of 2014 Is Also the Highest-Grossing War Movie of All Time

The box office champ among films released in 2014 is also the highest-grossing war movie in history. Fox News reports that Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper” has claimed the title.

Through the latest weekend, “Sniper” has climbed to $337.1 million in U.S. box office receipts. That puts the movie ahead of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” at $336.9 million domestically.

Rounding out the top five 2014 releases: “Guardians of the Galaxy” is third with $333.1 million; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” fourth with $259.7 million; and “The LEGO Movie” fifth with $257.7 million.

“Worldwide, ‘American Sniper’ has earned $500.1 million, making it the most successful war film ever released,” the report notes.
