Fox News Chalks Up a Dominant First Quarter in the Key Demo

With nine of the top 10 programs in the key news demo of adults 25-54 during the first quarter of 2015, Fox News Channel continues to dominate the cable news ratings.

In final rankings released by Nielsen for the period from Dec. 29, 2014-March 27, 2015, “The O’Reilly Factor” held down its usual No. 1 spot in the demo, averaging 509,000 demo viewers. Nos. 2-7 were also Fox News shows.

In order, from 2-7, they were “The Kelly File” (413,000), “The Five” (338,000), “Special Report with Bret Baier” (333,000), “On the Record with Greta van Susteren” (315,000), “Hannity” (311,000), and repeats of “The O’Reilly Factor” (253,000).

The highest-ranked show on a channel other than Fox News was CNBC’s “Shark Tank” at No. 8 with 243,000 in the demo.

Rounding out the top 10 were two other Fox News shows: “America’s Newsroom” (239,000 demo viewers) and “Fox and Friends” (230,000).

CNN’s highest-ranked show was “Anderson Cooper 360” at No. 12 with 211,000 viewers 25-54, and MSNBC’s best showing was No. 26 for “The Rachel Maddow Show” with 145,000.
