CBS announced a first for its long-running reality competition “Survivor,” which is gearing up for the premiere this fall of its 31st season.
For the first time, the 20 castaways who will compete on the show will be chosen by fans. Voting began this week for “Survivor: Second Chance.”
The contenders are 32 former players from seasons 1 through 30, the current season, who have never won on the show, with 20 of them to be given a second chance.
The new cast will be revealed May 20, the same day season 30 wraps, with the announcement set to take place on the live reunion show.

Carolyn Rivera from the current season is up for a “second chance.” The problem? She hasn’t been voted out yet. So I guess that reveals she is not in the Final Three …

I have been disappointed at the ethnic makeup of previous shows. The casts are usually overloaded cwith African-Americans, with very few Hispanic American and Asian American contestants. According to the latest census, one in every five Americans is either Hispanic or Asian, while only one in 12 is African-American. I would like to see va more representative ethnic majority.
