Actress From ‘Goonies,’ ‘Romancing the Stone,’ ‘Lethal Weapon’ Films Dies

A character actress who had a string of television and film roles has died. The AP reports that Mary Ellen Trainor, best known for her work on the big screen in “The Goonies,” “Romancing the Stone” and the “Lethal Weapon” movies, died May 20 at her home in Montecito, Calif.

Reports of her age vary, with some media outlets listing her as 62 while others say she was 64.

Trainor’s TV work included a recurring role on the WB/UPN series “Roswell” and a regular role on ABC’s “Relativity.” In features she played LAPD psychiatrist Dr. Stephanie Woods in the four “Lethal Weapon” movies and may be best remembered as mom Irene Walsh in “The Goonies.”

She was married to filmmaker Robert Zemeckis from 1980-2000, and appeared in a number of his movies, including “Forrest Gump” and “Romancing the Stone.”
