Through two games of the NBA Finals, where the Cleveland Cavaliers evened the series with a 95-93 win over the Golden State Warriors in overtime in last night’s Game 2, the series is the highest-rated NBA Finals ever on ABC.
The network reported that Game 2 delivered a 12.9 overnight rating, based on Nielsen figures, climbing a hefty 26% from the equivalent game in the Miami-San Antonio series a year ago. The series is averaging a 12.9 through two games.
Sunday’s coverage of the Finals was expected to win the night across all of television — for the 44th consecutive time for the NBA Finals.
“Game 2 delivered a 42.1 rating in the Cleveland market and a 31.7 in the San Francisco market,” ABC noted in its announcement. “Both are records for an NBA game on ABC (or any ESPN network) and also up from their previous records, which were set for Game 1 of this series.”
The Finals continue Tuesday with Game 3 set for 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
