Netflix has greenlighted an original production starring Brad Pitt. The streaming service announced plans today for “War Machine,” which will be released theatrically in 2016 and will also be made available globally to Netflix members, also in 2016.
The project is inspired by the best-selling book “The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan,” by the late Michael Hastings. It’s described as a satirical comedy and comes from Pitt and David Michod.
The movie will be produced by Netflix and Pitt along with his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and producer Ian Bryce (“World War Z,” “Saving Private Ryan”).
Principal photography is scheduled to start in August.
