Two-time Academy Award nominee Winona Ryder will tackle her first series regular role as the lead in a new Netflix mystery series from Matt and Ross Duffer of “Wayward Pines,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.
“In the currently untitled series, which is billed as a ‘love letter to the ’80s classics,’ a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl,” THR reports.
The Netflix production is slated for a 2016 premiere.
“The Duffer brothers will write and direct all eight hourlong episodes of the series, with Karl Gajdusek (‘Last Resort’) serving as showrunner,” THR notes. “The Duffer brothers and Gajdusek will exec produce with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen under their 21 Laps Entertainment banner (‘Night at the Museum’).”
Ryder was nominated for Oscars in 1994 for “The Age of Innocence” and in 1995 for “Little Women.”
