A canine actor who was anointed as the heir to Rin-Tin-Tin, Lassie, Benji and other famous screen dogs as the biggest canine star in Hollywood has died. Uggie, a Jack Russell terrier best known as one of the stars of the Academy Award-winning 2011 feature “The Artist,” died at 13 after a battle with prostate cancer, The Washington Post reports.
Uggie also appeared in “Water for Elephants” and other films. His memoir, “Uggie, My Story,” was published in 2012.
