A former TV meteorologist has filed a lawsuit against the station where he worked for 21 years. The Odessa American reports that Thomas Tefertiller is accusing west Texas station KWES-TV — NewsWest 9 — of firing him because of his age and health.

“In a civil lawsuit filed on Friday in the Midland Federal Court, Tefertiller and attorney Adam Poncio of San Antonio claim officials with KWES-TV knew Tefertiller suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes, and was later diagnosed with anemia,” the story reports. “According to court documents, Tefertiller is 46 years old and was terminated on May 25 after working for the station for 21 years.”

The court documents are quoted stating: “Defendant (KWES-TV) breached the agreement with Plaintiff and wrongfully terminated him based on false reasons that served as a pretextual basis for discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination.”

The report adds: “Documents also state KWES-TV violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the American with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Texas Labor Code.”
