A man who is known for his appearances on reality TV and in feature films faces five criminal counts in connection with a stunt in Hollywood earlier this month. As we reported previously, “Jackass” star Stephen Glover, better known as Steve-O, allegedly climbed a large crane to inflate a killer whale balloon in a protest against SeaWorld.

The stunt drew a large response from police and fire rescue units. Now Glover has been charged with “one count each of creating a false emergency, use of unregistered fireworks, storing fireworks without a permit, possession of fireworks without a permit, and trespassing,” the AP reports, citing Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the City Attorney’s Office in L.A.

Mateljan also said the city will pursue financial restitution for the cost of the large emergency response.

The AP reports that Glover, 41, “scrambled up a crane at least 100 feet high on Sunset Boulevard, inflating a large killer whale balloon emblazoned with ‘SeaWorld Sucks’ and lighting fireworks when he reached the top, police said.” The incident occurred Aug. 9.

Margaret Stewart, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department, reportedly said the following day that five ambulances, a helicopter and more than 80 firefighters responded to the situation.

“Jackass” originally aired on MTV from 2000-2002, subsequently moving to the big screen with three feature films. A number of TV spinoffs have come and gone, including the 2007 Glover reality vehicle “Dr. Steve-O.”
