CBS and NBC Extend Premiere Week Winning Streaks

Both NBC and CBS claimed ratings victories for premiere week of the new fall season, with NBC extending a winning streak in the key 18-49 demo while CBS continued its own streak by winning total viewers.

NBC won premiere week for the fourth consecutive year in the 18-49 demo, and CBS won the week in total viewers for the seventh year in a row.

Based on Nielsen Live+Same Day figures, here are the results for premiere week, Sept. 21-27:

Among the highlights for NBC, “Sunday Night Football” was the No. 1 telecast of the week on the Big 4 broadcast networks in adults 18-49, total viewers, adults 25-54, adults 18-34 and all key adult-male demos. “Blindspot” was the network’s top series debut in two years in 18-49 (3.1 rating/3 share) and total viewers (10.6 million).

For CBS, which more than doubled its margin of victory for premiere week in total viewers from last year, “Life in Pieces” was the week’s top new comedy in total viewers. CBS was also the only network to post year-to-year growth in adults 18-49, rising 4% from a 2.4/8 to a 2.5/8.
