What Made Dan Rather Well Up at the Toronto Film Festival?

Former CBS News fixture Dan Rather got emotional during an appearance over the weekend at the Toronto Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The occasion was a question-and-answer session following the premiere of a new film about Rather.

The film, “Truth,” in which Robert Redford plays Rather, examines Rather’s 2006 departure from CBS over a “60 Minutes” report on alleged Vietnam-era draft-dodging by President George W. Bush — an incident some observers have dubbed “Rathergate.”

“Rather choked up when asked by an audience member if he would have done anything differently in his career,” THR report, quoting Rather saying “Journalism is not an exact science” and adding that there were “plenty of things I would do over.”

In an interview with THR before the screening, Rather praised the movie.

“Naturally I was pleased, and pleasantly surprised,” he told the publication. “This film is very accurate. A film called ‘Truth’ should be accurate.”

  1. Hint: When in a position of trust, don’t run unverified content just because it slimes people you don’t like politically.

  2. Dan Rather is such a liberal pussy who has consistently lied about many things. This new so called movie with Redford is another distortion of the truth. Not unbelievable that it was green lighted.
