Another Presidential Contender Wants to Host ‘SNL’ — and He Has Plenty to Say About the Show; Also, One Candidate Who Will NOT Be Doing ‘SNL,’ and Why

In the wake of the news that GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump will host the Nov. 7 installment of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” another Republican contender, Sen. Ted Cruz, sounded off about the show — and it turns out he’s a big fan.

The Hill reports that the Texas lawmaker said he grew up watching “SNL” and would love to host the show. Cruz also offered praise for Kate McKinnon’s portrayals of Hillary Clinton, saying McKinnon “has her dead-on.”

He also said he has called Sen. Bernie Sanders “Larry” since Larry David’s recent “SNL” impression of the Democratic presidential candidate. Said Cruz: “Oh, my goodness, Larry David’s performance — that was Bernie.”

Another GOP contender, Ben Carson, apparently is not a fan of mixing politics and comedy. The Hill reports that Carson is not interested in an appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” and had this to say during a recent interview with Bloomberg: “I think the presidency of the United States is a very serious thing. I don’t even want to begin to put it in the lightness of comedy.”

Here’s the Cruz clip:

  1. Cruz wants to be on SNL. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I’ve seen him talk. That humorless (expletive deleted) could kill the funniest joke of all time.

  2. Carson could not do it. He’d be a big time fail. So it’d be a riot.

  3. Well ted cruz is almost a big a clown as trump so why not? (except i cant stand ted cruz s whiney voice!)

  4. Celticpride, Cruz is not a clown; he’s a very dangerous individual, and I fervently believe that he, in reality, is a Russian mole.

  5. No.
