Mega-producer Greg Berlanti, whose TV track record includes a string of success stories such as “Dawson’s Creek,” “Arrow” and “Everwood,” has a new drama project in the works at ABC. Variety reports that Berlanti is working with “Witches of East End” creator Maggie Friedman on an adaptation of the upcoming book series “The Thousandth Floor.”
“The network has put a script, penned by Friedman, into development for series contention,” Variety reports. “Inspired by author Katharine McGee’s yet-to-be-released novels, the futuristic year 2118-set drama takes place in a thousand-story supertower on Manhattan’s Upper East Side where a young woman’s fall from the 1,000th floor ignites a scandal that ensnares the top-floor elite and the bottom-floor drones. In the story’s hyper-stratified world, the higher you climb, the farther you fall.”
The first book in the series, titled “The Thousandth Floor,” is due out in 2017.
Berlanti will executive produce along with Berlanti Productions’ Sarah Schechter and Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. Friedman is also set to executive produce. Warner Bros. TV is the studio behind the project.
