A broadcast drama series moved into the No. 1 spot in the rankings, surpassing even NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” for the week of Oct. 5-11. CBS reports that its “NCIS” claimed the top spot in the rankings for total viewers, based on Nielsen Media Research L+3 data.

The bump from three-day viewing enabled “NCIS” to swap places in the rankings with “Sunday Night Football,” which had been at No. 1 when Live+Same Day figures were tallied.

In Live+3, “NCIS” chalked up 19.838 million total viewers to slip past “Sunday Night Football” with 19.636 million. CBS’s comedy “The Big Bang Theory” was a close third with 19.573 million.

“NCIS” received a bump of 18% — or 2.973 million viewers — from its L+SD result of 16.865 million. Predictably, “Sunday Night Football,” which is generally watched live, had almost no bump, registering an additional 50,000 viewers, rounded off to 0%, from its Live+Same Day total of 19.586 million.

“Big Bang Theory” received a hefty bump from three-day viewing, rising 27% from its L+SD figure of 15.396 million.

The biggest three-day bump in the top 10 was for  Fox’s “Empire,” which rose 30% from its L+SD total of 13.101 million to rack up 17.013 million viewers in L+3, good for fourth place on the broadcast list. Also noteworthy was the L+3 performance of CBS’s “Blue Bloods,” which cracked the top 10 after a 28% bump, rising from 10.737 million in same-day viewing to 13.781 million in Live+3 to place 10th on the list.

Two NBC shows were among the biggest gainers of the top series. “Blindspot” rose 48%, from 9.062 million in L+SD to 13.391 million in L+3, placing 11th on the list for the week; and “Blacklist” surged 56%, from 7.019 million to 10.917 million, placing 21st overall.

ABC’s “Quantico” may be the biggest benefiary of any broadcast show from three-day viewing. The drama series posted a whopping 70% gain in total viewers over its same-day number, rising from 5.747 million to 9.788 million and ranking 28th on the L+3 list.
