Former NBA star and “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” personality Lamar Odom has shown signs of improvement as he continues to fight for his life in a Las Vegas hospital, according to a report in USA Today.
“Doctors treating Odom in the intensive care unit at Sunrise Hospital, close to the Las Vegas Strip, were believed to have detected increased heart function and were continuing to monitor his situation closely,” the publication reports today.
The report adds: “TMZ reported that Odom’s heart was ‘on the mend,’ although USA Today Sports understands that prognosis may be prematurely optimistic.”
A toxicology report on a blood sample from Odom taken just after he was hospitalized is still pending, the report notes. Some reports have indicated that he ingested what has been described as a “cocktail” of drugs.
“After being rushed to hospital on Tuesday following a three-day binge involving use of cocaine and up to 10 sexual performance pills, Odom was still very much fighting for his life,” USA Today notes.
Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian, Odom’s estranged wife, maintained a vigil at Odom’s bedside, while other members of the Kardashian family were part of a star-studded string of well-wishers who have been paying visits to the 35-year-old Odom’s hospital room.
Among those who have reportedly stopped by are Caitlyn Jenner, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Kobe Bryant, Odom’s former Lakers teammate. And basketball greats including Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson have been sending their thoughts via social media.
Johnson sent out a tweet saying, “What most people don’t realize about Lamar Odom is that he’s a better person than he is a basketball player.” And O’Neal wrote: “Everyone that reads this post, please pray for my friend Lamar Odom that he makes a full recovery. #MyHeartHurts”
