Protesters Ratchet Up Pressure on NBC Over Trump ‘SNL’ Gig; Picketers Descend on 30 Rock

Donald Trump’s upcoming appearance as guest host on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” continues to spark controversy, with a coalition of advocacy groups spearheading a protest calling for NBC to “dump Trump.”

The New York Daily News reports that the groups delivered petitions Wednesday to NBC headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, where “SNL” originates. Meanwhile, protesters carrying picket signs with slogans such as “Trump: Make America Hate Again” have been gathering outside the headquarters.

The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda has asked NBC reconsider the decision to go ahead with Trump’s appearance.

In a statement, Mushed Zaheed, deputy political director of Credo Action, one of the groups participating in the protests, said: “There’s mounting evidence that Donald Trump’s racist demagoguery is resulting in real-world violence and physical and verbal intimidation.”

The Daily News reports that clips promoting Trump’s “SNL” visit appeared to have been pulled from NBC’s website today. However a YouTube version of the promo, which we circulated Wednesday, appeared to still be up. You can see the clip by clicking here.

The report notes that about two-dozen protesters were at the scene when petitions were delivered Wednesday to NBC’s midtown Manhattan offices. Groups including America’s Voice, MoveOn.org and the National Council of La Raza are a part of the coalition.

“Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, said after delivering the petitions that the protest effort was not over,” the Daily News reports. “His group and others would use the days leading up to the broadcast to call on ‘SNL’ sponsors to remove their commercials from Saturday’s show, he said.”

The report notes that NBC had declined to comment on the petitions and did not immediately comment on the effort to put pressure on advertisers.

  1. This is what Trump wants; more publicity for his appearance. They are defeating their own purposes. Many people like me weren’t even aware he was on this week. You can be sure I will watch now to see what happens next.

  2. Really?! People protesting Trump obviously are missing the irony. Trump belongs on SNL. He and his campaign are a joke that too many people are taking seriously.
