‘So Intense It Has to Be Binged’: TBS Announces Marathon Rollout, ‘Largest Renewal Ever’ for New Series

In a programming move TBS is calling the largest renewal ever for a TV series, the cable channel announced today that it has renewed the show “Angie Tribeca” for 10 additional seasons — although the “seasons” themselves will be relatively brief. The move comes ahead of the series premiere, which is set for Jan. 17.

The rollout for the, um, police procedural, which stars “Parks and Recreation’s” Rashida Jones and comes from executive producers Steve and Nancy Carell, appears to be designed to induce binging — which TBS acknowledges in a trailer that says the show is “so intense it has to be binged.” (You can watch the trailer below.)

The network will launch the series with a commercial-free 25-hour marathon of the full 10-episode first season, beginning Jan. 17.

TBS’s unusual plans for the series don’t end there. Seasons 2 through 11 will each consist of a single episode, and will premiere one “season” per week, starting Monday, Jan. 25.

The series, billed by TBS as a “powerful, heroic, unforgettable and tastefully erotic cop show,” also has Hayes MacArthur, Jere Burns, Deon Cole and Andree Vermeulen among its key cast members.

The rollout will be international and will include the full range of platforms including TBS’s VOD, digital and mobile platforms.

Here’s how TBS describes the “Angie Tribeca” rollout in its announcement:

Angie Tribeca: The Launch

Season 1 — Starting Sunday, Jan. 17

Binge watching is the new normal, but for such a haunting, raw series like Angie Tribeca, one binge won’t be enough. So TBS is going to give viewers the ultimate binge experience: a 25-hour marathon of the entire season played five times in a row, Sunday, Jan. 17, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) – Monday, Jan. 18, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), with each episode running commercial-free. The first season will also be available across TBS On Demand, tbs.com, the Watch TBS mobile app and participating providers’ platforms and apps. It’s the biggest epic event since TV’s last big epic event.

Seasons 2-11 — Available Mondays, beginning Jan. 25

After binging on Angie Tribeca’s first season, viewers can start diving into seasons 2-11, each one consisting of a single episode that will allow viewers to experience the emotional highs of a season premiere and season finale in one powerful 30-minute package. Seasons 2-11 of Angie Tribeca are set to debut Mondays at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT), starting Jan. 25, followed by availability across TBS’s on-demand platforms. As if that weren’t enough, each week’s season premiere/finale on the linear network will be followed by an encore telecast from season 1 at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).

  1. Calling 21 episodes “11 Seasons.” Is just silly. It is a 10 episode release and then one a week for a traditional 21 episodes but done over only 11 weeks.
