The actor who played the masked killer in the slasher movie “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” has died. Reuters reports that Gunnar Hansen, best known for his work as the mentally disturbed “Leatherface” in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 genre classic, died of pancreatic cancer at 68.
His agent, Mike Eisenstadt, announced Hansen’s death Sunday.
In a statement, Eisenstadt called Leatherface “one of the most iconic evil figures in the history of cinema.”
“A native of Iceland, Hansen lived in Maine for the past 40 years, working mostly as a writer and actor, Eisenstadt said. Hansen is survived by his partner of 13 years, Betty Tower,” Reuters reports.
Hansen’s memoir “Chain Saw Confidential” was recently published.
