Why the NBC Network and NBCU Cable Nets Are Tweaking Their Programming Lineups

NBCUniversal plans to mess with some of its programming, both on the NBC broadcast network and on a number of cable networks, to make room for content that will plug the upcoming Lionsgate feature film “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” — squeezing in some promotion for NBCU programming as well.

Variety reports that the centerpiece of the promotion will be a 13-minute preview program featuring “Hunger Games” highlights and vignettes. “Hunger Games” elements will also be incorporated into regular programming, notably an appearance by Jennifer Lawrence and other “Hunger Games” stars with Carson Daly on the Nov. 10 installment of NBC’s “The Voice.” The movie is due out in theaters Nov. 20.

The appearance on “The Voice,” which will include “Hunger Games” actors Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, will also provide a glance at a behind-the-scenes special, “The Hunger Games: The Phenomenon,” which will bow on NBCU-owned cable channels USA, Oxygen, Bravo, E! and Syfy on Nov. 12.

“The 13-minute preview will be followed on each network by a ‘first-look’ at an original program slated to debut,” Variety notes. “On E!, viewers will get a look at the next cycle of ‘The Royals.’ Bravo will offer a peek at ‘Vanderpump Rules’ and Oxygen will highlight ‘Pretty. Strong.’ Syfy will preview ‘Childhood’s End’ and USA will highlight ‘The Colony.’”

Following the short feature’s on-air premiere, it will be available online on sites such as Fandango and E! Online.
