Carrie Fisher Has Two Words for ‘Star Wars’ Body Shamers: ‘Blow Us’

Carrie Fisher’s appearance in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” more than three decades after she last played Princess Leia in the feature franchise, sparked a torrent of debate online about her weight and her general appearance — and Fisher is fighting back.

The Emmy-nominated actress sent out a Tweet saying: “Please stop debating about whether or not I aged well. Unfortunately, it hurts all three of my feelings. My body hasn’t aged as well as I have. Blow us.”

Fisher, 59, also sent out this message: “Youth and beauty are not accomplishments, they’re the temporary happy by-products of time and/or DNA. Don’t hold your breath for either.”

The actress talked about being under pressure to lose weight during the runup to the premiere of “The Force Awakens.” She told Good Housekeeping in an interview published earlier this month that she felt pressured to lose 35 pounds for the movie. “I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance,” she told the magazine. “That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”
