A New York judge has barred the fantasy sports sites DraftKings and FanDuel from doing business in the state.
USA Today reports: “Manuel Mendez, a justice for the Supreme Court of the State of New York, wrote in seperate rulings released Friday that New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman was within his authority to seek an injunction against the daily fantasy sites and granted the injunction.”
Moments after the ruling, lawyers for DraftKings filed a motion seeking to reverse the court order, the report notes.
Schneiderman sent a cease-and-desist letter to the companies in November, declaring them to be illegal gambling operations, the report notes. The two companies responded by suing to remain in business in New York.
The companies have been running heavy TV advertising campaigns, focusing in particular on sports programming.
