Latest Trump Remarks Have Nets Pondering Whether They Can Say That

Talking about a recent attack on Hillary Clinton by Donald Trump, NBC fixture Matt Lauer called Trump’s language “demeaning,” “degrading” and “juvenile,” but avoided using the word that triggered the discussion, which was a form of “schlong,” TVNewser reports.

The report quotes Trump saying of Clinton during a rally earlier this week: “Even a race to Obama, she was gonna beat Obama. I don’t know who would be worse, I don’t know, how could it be worse? But she was going to beat — she was favored to win — and she got schlonged, she lost, I mean she lost.”

The report adds: “CBS News, which called Trump’s language ‘lewd,’ reports ‘schlong’ (or ‘schlonged’) has never been used in a presidential speech. On ‘CBS This Morning,’ Major Garrett mentioned a ‘lewd leap toward Yiddish,’ but bleeped the word itself.”

Other broadcast and cable outlets took their own approaches to reporting the story, and to handling a word that they generally appeared not to have dealt with before in the context of political reporting.
