The Fox Network’s new music project from “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels has found its lead. USA Today reports that the project has cast Queen Latifah in the role.
“The untitled pilot, which has at times been referred to as ‘Star,’ focuses on three young women who form a girl group and hope to rise to stardom,” the story reports. “Those three roles also have been filled. The pilot, which could lead to a series, is set to begin production this month in Atlanta.”
Latifah will play Carlotta, an Atlanta beauty salon owner who becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls.
– even though she doesn’t approve of their musical dreams,” according to Fox’s description of the pilot.
The girl group will be played by three rising artists who were found in a nationwide search: Jude Demorest as Star, Ryan Destiny as Alexandra and Brittany O’Grady as Simone.
