The refrigerator is on the verge of what could be its biggest tech advance in decades, or as the New York Post puts it, “Refrigerator technology is about to get way cooler.”
Samsung previewed its new Family Hub refrigerator Tuesday at the CES show in Las Vegas. The company showed off the unit’s ability to order groceries via an app that operates on a computer screen on the door of the refrigerator. The app can also be accessed via a smartphone, enabling a user at the supermarket to access cameras inside the fridge revealing its current contents.
“The fridge’s newfangled app, which has been developed in a partnership with MasterCard, will initially work with two New York-area grocers, FreshDirect and ShopRite,” the story reports. “It will also work with other major credit cards, and fees are the same as with ordering with a laptop or mobile phone, execs said.”
