Senior executives from the home entertainment divisions of Hollywood’s four leading studios gave a collective thumbs-up to 4K Ultra HDTV during the UHD Alliance meeting last week in Las Vegas, held as part of CES.
HD Guru reports that the studios, which are members of the 35-member UHD Alliance along with other content producers, consumer electronics manufacturers and distributors, unanimously endorsed the format. Representing the studios at the event were Ron Sanders, president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment; Mike Dunn, president of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment; Man Jit Singh, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment; and Michael Bonner, digital distribution executive VP for Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
The first Ultra HD Blu-ray players are being introduced, and 4K Ultra HD feature films are being delivered to the home via streaming, digital download and satellite as well. In addition to issuing a new certification process for digital devices and software, the Alliance plans to focus on educating consumers about 4K Ultra HD.
