Hollywood has been binge watching a new Netflix series over the holiday break. According to a report in Variety, the 10-part series “Making a Murderer” has “generated a storm of glowing reviews and discussion on social media.”

The documentary series, filmed over a period of 10 years, examines the case of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man who spent 18 years in prison on a sexual assault conviction before being released on DNA evidence. Avery was later convicted of the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach — a crime for which many think Avery was framed.

Since the series rolled out Dec. 18 on Netflix, petitions calling for a pardon for Avery have been gathering momentum online, Variety notes. “The detail in the docuseries from filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos has led to a chorus of critics calling for disciplinary actions against prosecutors in Wisconsin’s Manitowoc County and broader reforms of the criminal justice system,” the story reports.
