An actor who plays a character on the long-running Nickelodeon animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants” was arrested late last week. TMZ.com reports that Rodger Bumpass, the voice of Squidward Tentacles, was arrested Friday night on suspicion of driving under the influence.
“Law enforcement sources tell us cops noticed a blue PT Cruiser stopped in the middle of a road just before 11 p.m. with a man leaning against the car,” TMZ reports. “When cops walked up to the guy — Bumpass — they say he walked away and was so unsteady he nearly fell.”
Bumpass reportedly failed a field sobriety test during the incident in Burbank, Calif. People magazine reports that he was held overnight before being released early Saturday on $15,000 bail.
Bumpass, 64, has a long list of TV credits going back to 1978, with many voice roles and a number of live-action roles. His voice work includes performances on the TV shows “Toxic Crusaders,” “The Real Ghostbusters,” “Mighty Mouse, the New Adventures” and “Alvin & the Chipmunks.”
He received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2012 for his work as Squidward on “SpongeBob.”
