A prime-time broadcast program that recently aired had the largest audience of anything on television so far this season, not counting sports. Adweek reports that Sunday’s installment of CBS’s “60 Minutes” claimed the top spot.
As we reported previously, the program featured Sean Penn discussing his encounter with Mexican drug lord El Chapo. The CBS show also benefited by leading out from the Denver Broncos-Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game, which was the highest-rated Sunday AFC Divisional Playoff game in 21 years, Adweek notes.
“60 Minutes” delivered 20.62 million viewers in L+SD. “By comparison, TV’s number one comedy, ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ hit a season-high 17.2 million in December (which increased to 23 million with Live +3 day),” the article notes. “The Golden Globes telecast on NBC drew 18.5 million earlier this month.”
