HBO Reveals How Many Subscribers Have Signed Up for HBO Now Since Its April Launch

Feb 16, 2016  •  Post A Comment

HBO has a reputation for keeping its numbers under wraps, but the company revealed that its HBO Now broadband-only service has gathered 800,000 subscribers since its launch back in April, the New York Post reports.

“It has a way to go before it reaches its aim of serving around half of the 10 million or so folks who are going without paid TV service. (Jon Stewart and Bill Simmons are on the way, though, so it’s still the service’s early days.)” the report notes.

The HBO numbers come out as investors await news on other direct-to-consumer video services, including whether Dish will break out subs for its Sling TV bundle. The report adds: “Sadly, CBS Chief Exec Leslie Moonves declined to share the company’s tally of paid subs for the online service CBS All Access, soon to be the exclusive home of a new ‘Star Trek’ reboot.”

  1. I’m OTA viewer and there’s not enough on HBO to make me want to pay for it.
