Mark Zuckerberg Chastises Facebook Employees: Stop Crossing Out ‘Black Lives Matter’ on Facebook’s Free Expression Walls

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose company prides itself as an advocate of free expression, sent out a companywide memo Thursday chastising employees who have been crossing out the phrase “black lives matter” and replacing it with “all lives matter” on Facebook’s free expression walls at its campus in Menlo Park, Calif.

Bloomberg reports that Zuckerberg notes in the memo “that he has never had to make rules about what can be written on the chalkboards — but he considered these acts ‘malicious.’”

Zuckerberg is quoted saying in the posting: “This has been a deeply hurtful and tiresome experience for the black community and really the entire Facebook community, and we are now investigating the current incidents.”

The Bloomberg report, which calls the incident “the latest display of an employee culture at a major technology company at odds with its diversity goals,” notes that Facebook’s workforce is only 2% black.

  1. No Mr. Z, all this whining and micro-aggressing B.S. has been a deeply hurtful and tiresome experience for the ENTIRE HUMAN RACE !! Anyone who can’t agree with the phrase “All Lives Matter” is either a racist themselves or a self loather. By the way, Mr. Z, why is there only a 2% black makeup of your workforce. Hiring with more diversity in mind would seem to show that you “walk the walk” that black lives matter, instead of just “talking the talk”.

  2. Race and nationality don’t matter if you can write code. Public schools need to put more emphasis on these skills to help kids get jobs and then the percentages for race will move up significantly. I have worked in High Tech for 20 years and have never seen someone who can write code not get a job.
