Family members of Natalie Cole are fuming after Monday’s Grammy Awards ceremony paid tribute to the late singer during its In Memoriam segment but failed to single out Cole for a special tribute.

ET reports that the absence of a special tribute to Cole was seen as a diss by Cole’s fans and drew an angry response from her sisters Timolin and Casey, who are quoted telling ET: “Sadly a FORGETTABLE tribute to Natalie Cole. Words cannot express the outrage and utter disappointment at the disrespectful tribute, or lack thereof, to a legendary artist such as our sister.”

Cole, who reportedly won nine Grammys during her career and received a total of 21 nominations, died on New Year’s Eve at 65.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Cole, the daughter of Nat King Cole, “received an extended moment to close out the In Memoriam segment during the 58th annual Grammy Awards on Monday night, but did not get her own performance — Maurice White, Glenn Frey, B.B. King, Lemmy Kilmister and David Bowie (who was remembered with a medley from Lady Gaga) were all honored with tribute performances.”

Cole’s son Robert Adam Yancy also reacted strongly, telling ET: “She deserves more than (to be a part of) a minute-and-a-half tribute. It was shameless the way they minimized her legacy.”
