CBS Reporter Arrested in Bloody Fracas at Trump Rally — Here’s the Video

A reporter for CBS News was arrested at a rally for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump in Chicago Friday night. Poynter reports that Sopan Deb, who has been covering that Trump campaign, was one of five people arrested after protesters disrupted the rally.

Deb “kept his camera rolling and identified himself as a credentialed journalist to the officer who handcuffed him,” the story reports. “As skirmishes broke out between Trump protesters and supporters, Deb captured video and interviews then moved outside, where he recorded video of a bleeding protester who was lying on the street surrounded by police. According to Deb’s video, aired on Saturday by ‘CBS This Morning,’ a police officer forced Deb to the ground and put a boot on his neck ‘to keep him in place’.”

CBS News reported that Deb was charged with resisting arrest, but the Poynter story notes that “neither Deb’s video nor video captured by another news crew shows any sign of resistance. Deb’s camera was returned to him upon his release.”

Deb discussed the incident Sunday morning on “Face the Nation,” saying that as police were attempting to clear the street, another scuffle took place and “a police officer pulled me down by the back of my hoodie and threw me to the ground and bashed my face into the street.”

Here’s a video report posted by CBS’s “Face the Nation”:

  1. This is reminiscent of 1968 in Chicago, except then it was the Democrats with these issues. Is anyone investigating the Facebook websites that are promoting these protests against Trump? And who is behind these websites? Is this an organized effort or just random people promoting this disruption.

  2. Having BEEN at the Democratic convention in Chicago, I can tell you that the people were protesting the draft and the war in Viet Nam, and NOT ANY particular person at the convention, and so, this may resemble the demonstrations against Trump, but is no way parallel.

  3. Mein Trumpf.

  4. I am no fan of Trump or his mindless followers, but this obviously has more to do with a cop who has something against the media and let his personal animosities get in the way. There is no way that this policeman didn’t know that Sopan Deb was a reporter, and saying that he was “resisting arrest” is a travesty. It is unfortunate that this policeman will walk away from this incident without suffering any consequences for his actions. This will only embolden him to continue with this sort of conduct until he seriously hurts or even kills some innocent civilian.
