Jake Tapper revealed after the latest GOP presidential debate that the one thing that surprised him was that the event was relatively conflict-free.
Tapper, who moderated Thursday’s debate for CNN, told the Los Angeles Times: “There were plenty of opportunities not to just make their case but also contrast themselves from their fellow candidate that they did not take. And at this point [in] the campaign, where we are just a few days away from this huge day with two winner-take-all states, I was a little bit surprised.”
Tapper noted that after the confrontational tone of other recent GOP debates, he expected to have to assert himself to maintain order. “We were preparing for a much more feisty and more interrupting crowd,” he told the Times. “Instead we got to ask every question we wanted to ask.”
