Two of the most prominent faces of the Fox News Channel seem to be at odds, and they have Donald Trump to blame.
Megyn Kelly reportedly called out Fox News colleague Bill O’Reilly for not having her back when Trump went after her earlier in the election cycle. Kelly commented on the situation in a recent interview with More magazine, telling the publication: “I do wish that O’Reilly had defended me more in his interview with Trump. I would have defended him more.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Trump went after Kelly especially hard after the first Fox GOP debate, including demanding that she be dropped as a moderator on a subsequent debate and then boycotting the event when Fox kept her in the lineup.
“Since that time, Trump backed off somewhat and was polite to Kelly during the recent third Fox News debate,” THR reports. “However, his criticisms ramped up once more after that event when he claimed Kelly regularly had people on her show, ‘The Kelly File,’ disparaging him and lying about his poll numbers and debate performances.”
Since the new interview surfaced this week, Trump appears to have renewed his attacks on Kelly. He sent out a tweet early this morning saying: “Crazy @megynkelly is now complaining that @oreillyfactor did not defend her against me – yet her bad show is a total hit piece on me.Tough!”
The GOP front-runner followed up with a similar tweet later in the day, writing: “Highly overrated & crazy @megynkelly is always complaining about Trump and yet she devotes her shows to me. Focus on others Megyn!
