A California-based retail sports chain that has been in business since 1959 began shuttering its operation over the weekend. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Sport Chalet, which grew from one tiny ski shop in La Canada-Flintridge to more than 50 locations, launched going-out-of-business sales at its remaining locations Saturday.
The company also shut down its online sales unit.
“The regional chain, which was purchased in 2014 by a Connecticut company named Vestis Retail Group, will remain open for several weeks while merchandise is cleared out, Sport Chalet said on its website,” the article reports.
The company indicated it will continue to honor gift cards and loyalty rewards, reportedly with a cutoff date of April 29.
