Mel Gibson will co-write, direct, executive produce and appear in a new TV drama that will star Kate Hudson and her stepfather, Kurt Russell. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Gibson will play a recurring role in “The Barbary Coast,” set in early San Francisco in the Gold Rush years.
The project, from The Mark Gordon Company, is not yet attached to a network, but the report notes that the plan is to shop it to premium cable and streaming services.
Family members related to Hudson and Russell, both of whom will also executive produce, are a big part of the project. Hudson’s brother, actor Oliver Hudson, and Russell’s son, actor Wyatt Russell, are listed as executive producers, along with Bruce Davey and Rick Nicita.
