A new drama series in the pipeline at Netflix has lined up two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts to star. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Watts, who received leading actress nods in 2004 for “21 Grams” and 2013 for “The Impossible,” is committing to television full time.
Watts will play therapist Jean Holloway in the psychological thriller “Gypsy,” which Netflix picked up to series in January. Watts, who will also be an executive producer on the series, plays a character who becomes too involved in her patients’ lives.
“From writer/exec producer Lisa Rubin (‘I Was Here’), the 10-episode drama is produced by Universal Television and Working Title,” THR notes. “Working Title president Liza Chasin and Rubin also exec produce alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Sam Taylor-Johnson (‘Fifty Shades of Grey’) will direct the first two episodes of the series, which will premiere in 2017.”
