Fox pulled the plug on four series that make up the broadcast network’s entire class of freshman comedies.
Gone from the lineup for next season are the John Stamos sitcom “Grandfathered” and the Rob Lowe comedy “The Grinder,” both of which premiered last fall, along with the midseason comedies “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life” and the animated “Bordertown.”
Deadline.com notes that the writing has been on the wall for some time for “Bordertown” and “Cooper Barrett,” but the downfall of “Grandfathered” and “The Grinder” was a more recent development.
“Network brass started leaning toward pulling the plug on both shows in the last few weeks,” Deadline reports. “There were some hopeful signs for ‘Grandfathered’ in the last couple of days, with talk about tweaking the show, which is executive produced by top 20th TV-based creator Dan Fogelman, but the network ultimately canceled both shows.”
