A spinoff of the CBS drama series “The Good Wife,” which aired its series finale May 8, appears to be “more than simply speculation,” according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed, which reports that the project is closing in on deals to move forward.
“Though the deals are not yet done, the spinoff will center on Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and newer addition Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo),” the publication reports. “Creators Robert and Michelle King are in final negotiations to co-write the first episode but will not run the CBS TV Studios-produced series. The entry is expected to garner a straight-to-series order.”
The project is headed not for the linear network but for CBS’s $5.99 monthly All Access digital subscription service, the report notes. “Assuming a series order is announced at CBS’s May 18 upfront presentation, which is expected, it would mark the SVOD service’s second high-profile order following the November 2015 news of an original ‘Star Trek’ series,” the report notes.
