Shari Redstone, the daughter of Viacom boss Sumner Redstone, has been in talks about a possible sale of Paramount Pictures, according to a report by The New York Post.

The report cites unnamed sources saying Redstone has been talking with Chinese business magnate and philanthropist Jack Ma, the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group.

“The two are said to have spoken last week as Shari gets up to speed on the studio’s sales process, currently being executed by her chief adversary, Viacom Chief Executive Philippe Dauman,” The Post reports. “Indeed, Shari Redstone, just steps away from a complete takeover of Viacom — the owner of MTV and Comedy Central — was on the Paramount lot with her dad on Friday.”

The development comes amid a period of drama that is “threatening to tank Viacom,” according to the Post, which reports: “Senior staff are starting to exit Viacom. MTV head of reality Lauren Dolgen exited after 19 years, according to reports. Nickelodeon’s content development president, Russell Hicks, is exiting, too.”
