Comedian Sarah Silverman OK After Near-Death Experience

Comedian Sarah Silverman survived a run-in with a rare disease that almost proved fatal. Silverman recounted the experience in a Facebook post that you can read in full by clicking here.

Silverman revealed in the post, which went up Wednesday, that she was treated for a severe case of epiglottitis, which involves a cartilage structure in the throat that covers the windpipe. The condition can be life threatening by blocking the flow of air into the lungs.

Silverman’s Facebook post showcases her well-known sarcasm, even with the dire subject matter. Early in the post she comments: “This will not interest everyone so feel free to disregard.”

Silverman wrote about her recovery, noting that “as the opiates faded away” she “remembered the trauma of the surgery & spent the first two days home kind of free-falling from the meds / lack of meds and the paralyzing realization that nothing matters. Luckily that was followed by the motivating revelation that nothing matters.”
