Roger Ailes is headed out at Fox News amid allegations of sexual harassment and a lawsuit from former Fox host Gretchen Carlson, according to a Variety report citing a source who’s familiar with the situation.
“Spokespeople for both the network and the parent company were not available for immediate comment,” Variety notes.
The company released a statement on Twitter saying: “Roger is at work. The review is ongoing. And the only agreement that is in place is his existing employment agreement.”
Variety notes: “The final blow seemed to come on Tuesday: a report in New York Magazine alleging that Megyn Kelly, one of the network’s prime-time stars, had been the victim of unwanted sexual advances in her earlier days at the network. Those claims have not been independently verified, but the report seems to have played a role in determining the viability of Ailes’ tenure.”
The report notes that an item on the Drudge Report website indicates Ailes could be given as much as $40 million to settle up with Fox News. It is believed that his contract was due to run out in 2018.
